3.2.12 The Stress of Leisure are currently working towards a new album. Two words that come to mind are 'tropical' and 'seedy', but mind, it's nothing to do with pomegranates.
21.11.11 Ummm, how did this photo enter the Stress of Leisure webspace? Maybe next year will shed answers.......
16.11.11 Applewood Studios - it was all about rythym. A big shout out to Jessica, Ben and lastly but not leastly, Conga Phil.
12.11.11 Waxing Lyrical - it's basically songwriters talking about how they go about songwriting. Lucky for Ian that Kelly Lloyd (Screamfeeder), Clinton Toghill (The Bell Divers) and Tom Cooney were on hand to help extrapolate!
28.10.11 These various shots were taken during The Stress of Leisure's October residency at the Brisbane Powerhouse. With special guest, Mr Ben P Salter......
Nathan Shepherdson and David Stavanger also wandered on stage.....
Thanks to Dan Eady and Lewis/Macdonald for their photography services!

1.10.11 The Big 4 at the Zoo - The Better Mousetrap Treatment, The Bell Divers, The Stress of Leisure, Swaying Buildings. Here's two pics featuring The Bell Divers and Swaying Buildings. Very very enjoyable.....
25.9.11 A few snaps from behind the scenes for the Sex Time video shoot. A cunning plan hatched by Sean Young and Dan Eady, aided by a wily Tiffany Beckwith-Skinner.
22.9.11 Canberra Times - fun night at the Phoenix (BAD!SLAM!NO!BISCUIT!), and then the next night at Smiths Alternative Bookshop. Pas performed her poetry and then played her expensive keyboard as part of TSOL. Thanks especially to Andrew and Hadley.
30.8.11 This is Magoo. He's just finishing a day's work having heard the words 'sex time' repeatedly. Fantastic.
14.8.11 Recording at the Shed with Mr. Darek Mudge - 2 songs on their way toward 7" sexy times.
12.8.11 Here's a few shots of Pas and Ian at the Beetle Bar. Happy times. Supporting Mr Cruickshank was a pleasure as always.
2.7.11 Ben Salter again, this guy is ubiquitous.....Giants of Science had fun, we had fun, everyone had fun. It's nights like these that highlight why playing live music is good for you. Mrs Moore isn't in shot, but we can assure you that she was present and drumming.
29.6.11 Last TSOL show for the Financial Year - Ben Salter and Friends. It was also the official launch of Nanna Nights at the Vinyl Bar. Ben was kind enough to ask us to play a few songs on the occasion. And yes, we salute Dale Peachey's Ron Moss t-shirt!
10.4.11 Poster Art Series # 4
4.3.11 First band gig of the year - Rics Bar. We supported the wonderful Swaying Buildings whom incidentally, we share a bass player with. Cheers to Angus!
11.12.10 Many festive returns to you all. This is us backstage after our last gig of the year at the Globe. Thanks to Grand Atlantic yet again, and thanks to everyone else who've supported us one way or another this last year, especially if you own a copy of Soft Approach........
20.11.10 The Stress of Leisure has finally boarded a plane and travelled south. Cheers Sydney! A personal thanks to The Gin Club for the invitation and overwhelming support, it was great to be a part of their Choppin' Wood tour. Friday night for one, at the Annandale Hotel, was a grand old night with Sydney's own The Maladies and Dave McCormack. And well, then it was back to Brisbane for Saturday night at the Hi Fi Bar. We had fun, it was not stressful at all. Thanks to Sir Conor Macdonald for his lens work.
24.10.10 Set list from Troubadour. The Stress of Leisure supported Andrew Morris launch his new album. Great night out.
21.10.10 High times at the Sky Room. You should check out this bar, it's on the corner of Wickham and Brunswick in Fortitude Valley (Brisbane). The Stress of Leisure finish their October (acoustic) residency at the Sky Room Thursday next week (28/10). Phil Usher will also spin some tunes from his vast vinyl collection.
3.9.10 Once again The Stress of Leisure (acoustically) slipped into the Brisbane Writers Festival with little fanfare (of course!). Played a set as part of the BURN Writers Collective Blue Light Disco at the Edge (State Library of Qld).
Setlist
In the Movie Where He Dies of a Mystery Illness at the End Samantha On the Weekends Drinkers Peace (GBV cover) Yoko's Presents The Boy's Got Issues House and Garden Kids by the River
20.8.10 The Stress of Leisure launched Soft Approach at The Zoo, and well, apart from being 'soft' it was fun. This photo of Jess Seitz speaks volumes. Thanks to Rickford from fasterlouder.com....and all those who came along......
20.8.10 It's been a big week at 4ZzZfm because it's Radiothon. But also, the kind peoples that work there have had to put up with The Stress of Leisure visiting every second day. And well, Soft Approach is listed as number 1 on the 4ZzZ playlists. What a week! Thanks to 4ZzZ and Jay, Andrew, Sarah, Steve and Dan for all the support.
10.8.10 Poster Art Series #3
27.6.10 The Stress of Leisure are qualified Recreational Experts, specialising in Parklife. Say you feel like a birthday picnic, game of badminton, a quiet tree to read a book under? Not only are they able to recommend a park, they're able to draw up a list of possible utensils/products to help YOU in leisure. By the way, they've also finished a third album Soft Approach. You can buy it on this website.
6.6.10 Here's a few shots of Pas and Ian playing the Inspire Gallery in West End as part of Speed Poets. Thanks to Cindy in the City!
31.5.10 It'd be remiss of us in Stress of Leisure land to not post this image, captured by Stephen Goodwin.
23.5.10 Here's a few shots taken during the Powerhouse performance. Thanks to Julie and Mrs M.
5.5.10 Don, is good. Why would you fly yer work to the USA when it's this good? Different strokes for different folks..........
24.3.10 Poster Art Series #02
19.2.10 Step Inn Solicitation - beginning with a set from Anonymeye, then us, and concluding with Bremen Town Musician. "Is this the Roots Reggae mate?" Sorry.....
6.1.10 Poster Art Series #01
10.12.09 Troubadour, Troubadour, Troubadour......
Ho Ho Ho.........
4.12.09 Judith Wright Centre Shopfront '09 - For Sale 'The Stress of Leisure'. Price negotiable.
8.11.09 Underneath the radar - The Stress of Leisure takes Flight in November.
27.09.09 Stage 2 of recording. Six songs now towards album no. 3. Behind the drumkit, part-time Criminology expert Jess Seitz. Together with Mr Ben Moore, this is an established rythym section. Four new songs were begun.
11.09.09 A new range of Leisure footwear? This is The Stress of Leisure playing at the State Library of Qld. TSOL was a feature performer at the SLQ Poetry Slam.
29.08.09 And so endeth the month of August........ Groovy, intense, shapeshifting. We finish it off here with Rock Against Psychedelia @ The Clarence Corner Hotel........
19.08.09 Employee of the Month for two outstanding months - Neil.
14.08.09 Invisible van? What tour? Brisbane one night, Gold Coast the next. And well, disappointingly, no photos of those Grand Atlantic dudes. Thanks to Sarakula as well for the Miami occasion...........
23.07.09 Casino July - your lucky number is 3. Bet on black, Nevada never felt like this.
12.07.09 The Stress of Leisure versus the Super 8 Camera. We are not at one. We can only hope it yields good results, otherwise here's some shots for posterity. Thanks to Issi.........
21.06.09 Le Stress de Loisir played a 30 minute set at the State Library as part of Fete De La Musique. Some commented it is one of the best 'stress' gigs they'd been to. Completely unplugged - next year, the ferries..........
18.05.09 Images taken during the shooting of the House and Garden video clip. Thanks to Sara and the whole cast and crew who contributed to this production. You can find it on YouTube, check it out on the 'listen' page of this website.
22.03.09 When the Brisbane Powerhouse stipulated "a rehearsed" 45 minute performance in their contract, The Stress of Leisure legal team roared with laughter. Imagine our embarassment. I hope we re-salvaged some lost pride on Sunday, being as it were, properly rehearsed.
This was the official launch of Hour to Hour at Livespark.
9.03.09 Introducing Ben Moore on bass guitar. Tony and I met Ben through our local book club. He incidentally was the only one out of us who'd read Papillon and quickly agreed to feed us the vital facts, the plot summary, also alerting us to the existence of a movie. We did indeed appear erudite amongst our book club peers. Thanks Ben.
30.12.08 Flight is a Poetry/Performance Art piece developed by Mr David Stavanger (with glasses) and Pascalle Burton. TSOL has featured several times in the show, as in-flight cabin entertainment. Ian usually enters stage right and, along with Pascalle, performs Air by Talking Heads whilst David girates wildy in the audience (Ian has never actually confirmed what David does). These images were taken at the Woodford Folk Festival.
23.12.08 It's the festive season. Same as it ever was, time to do some laundry, get the house in order..........
It's not quite the spin cycle this picture suggests.
Laundromat, laundromat, laundromat.....
7.09.08 The Stress of Leisure should have a new album, 'Hour to Hour' out in October. In the meantime here's an interesting angle on Ian telling stories at Speed Poets. The King is right behind him.
2.07.08 Here's a shot taken during mastering in Sydney, featuring Don and his new Benchmark studio. The same room incidentally he used to have at 301, but now decked out with different equipment.
15.05.08 Played support to James Cruickshank along with Maiden Speech at The Living Room, Paddington. James was playing songs off his new album Hello Human. After his performance, possibly under coercion, he was also kind enough to agree to generous barter terms.
29.12.07 Look who it is - Anthony Laurence Strong. He popped in to the White Room to recount for us some of the key moments in Slash's book. Essential christmas reading I'd suggest. A burst pancreas later, we even laid down some more drum tracks.
12.09.07 Since winning The Stress of Leisure Singing Scholarship, Pascalle and Almaryse's career has sky-rocketed to just this last week score back-up singing duties on TSOL's 2nd album. Also part of the prize was a granted ten minute conversation with Neil Coombe! Well done maidens.
8.09.07 This shot was taken during my performance at the Queensland Poetry Festival. I was performing the song 'Chelsea Hotel' as part of a Leonard Cohen Tribute A Thousand Kisses Deep.
4.08.07 It's been a while since my last scrapbook entry. I haven't much to say for myself really, or The Stress of Leisure. I drive over to Tony's place, we have a hit, I drive back to my place, think a bit more about certain songs..........there's still a bit of recording to be done, and in a month or so, mixing hopefully........
20.06.07 So here I am up at the White Room, unfortunately having been stood up by Pascalle and Almaryse. They have their UK plans, they couldny make it, alas.....it was going to be great. Subsequently, I was reduced to a stare-off with the mixing board.......
13.06.07 Upstairs at the Tongue and Groove isn't usually used as a performance space, so what the heck, I've now played there. And well, this was all part of the fun which is an Outsiders night. I couldn't neglect this lovely photo of Anthony and Meece either.
28.05.07 Now for something completely different - playing 'Yoko's Presents' to a Year 10 Music Class.
5.05.07 Narcissism 101? Hey, c'mon.... this is just a quick exhibition of some of the shots Bella Seib has taken for The Stress of Leisure.....
20.4.07 Hell, The Stress of Leisure was described in the street press this last week as "painfully relaxed". I hope we lived up to expectations, being part as it were, of the Love Poetry Hate Racism night at The Globe Theatre. Importantly yes, we did manage to rock out despite our collective disposition, and well yes, we did have an emergency assembly point. But hey! This was TSOL's first electrified gig.
18.4.07 Here's a photo taken at The River Read Bookshop in Noosa. I was playing as part of the Sunshine Coast launch of 'Home Is Where The Heartache Is'.
30.3.07 Here's a few shots from the launch of Julie Beveridge's book 'Home Is Where The Heartache Is'. The Ol' Stress of Leisure had been looking forward to this and was mighty chuffed that Jules invited him to play. The location is the Queensland Writers Centre. You'll note there are no shots of him playing though, too much double chin stuff for his liking, and well, a couple of shots of Julie seems way more fitting.....
24.3.07 I thought this album was just gonna happen. But no, it's taken some revision. Hopefully it can all be finished by September? Ha! This last week has been a whole lotta fun - Dean Reeves played some inspired percussion for me (wait to you hear his work, it's brilliant); Tony also laid down what we think will be the last drum tracks.
10.3.07 The Stress of Leisure has been working out some new songs. And no, Tony doesn't have a cheap disco light growing out of his head these days, this is just another example of fine photography. In any case, if anyone does see Tony wandering aimlessly in the streets, quickly administer a Tooheys New.
2.3.07 Well, none of my many Sunshine Coast fans can say I don't make the effort. Here I am at the Kawana Community Centre on apparently Lou Reed's birthday supporting the distinguished Jackie Marshall and Andy White (both pictured). Check out the type of fans of TSOL, it appears I may be able to do some cross promotional work with Cougar Rum and Cola.
8.2.07 People are asking me "What's goin' on Ian? When can I sink the boot inta yer next album? When can I hear that whiny voice of yorz on these new tracks youse keep talkin' bout?" Hmmmm, well good questions erstwhile friends. Maybe I do just go up to the White Room, hang out with young Neilus Coomus and take in the scenery, it's all questionable. But hey, check out the dodgy photos we took just this last Wednesday! If nothing else, I guess that's something.........
23.1.07 It twas a dark basement that goes by the name of Tongue & Groove, it twas where The Stress of Leisure played, it twas good times. Other people that played twere Maiden Speech (pictured with moi) as well as Modus from Tasmania and the Speed Poet champions Shooting People. Graham Nunn was there also and his conversation was of a high standard.
16.1.07 Oh Scrapbook Muse, you have deserted The Stress of Leisure. For two whole months you have left it bereft of scintilating new ideas for scrapbooking. As compensation please accept this shot of an angry man recording his vocals.
5.11.06 Played another short set at Speed Poets, held in the Alibi Room's Tiki Lounge. Mr Graham Nunn, Brisbane Poet and all-round good guy, once again was kind enough to introduce me.
13.09.06 Well, time marches on and I'm in the midst of recording this new album. I've got the whiteboard out so it's getting serious.....
Neil says a little prayer....
1.08.06 Have at present a 12 song CD I've been distributing to friends and industry people. People are saying some nice things, except for Gonzo...but he's a bastard.
Bless its little soul, this album with its mandarine front cover, has now travelled to not only various ports in Australia, but to Espana, Belgique and the UK.
7.06.06 Started working on a new album with Neil up at the White Room Recording Studio. Check out the photos. Neil, well.....he smiles too much for my liking.
13.03.06 Check out the studio photos - Toby on drums, Gonzo on bass, Will on piano, Dan and Neil at their respective control desks, Oh and Cousin Andrew on stress leave from work, megaphoning it.
6.03.06 The Stress of Leisure website was officially launched.
1.03.06 Today I was in Sydney mastering the album with Don Bartley at 301 studios. |
